Academic Programme - Lower School

Under the WA Curriculum Framework, outcomes are organised into eight learning areas. The following chart outlines those
learning areas and the required period allocation from Lesmurdie Senior High School over a student's Lower School Years:

Learning Area Year 8 Periods Year 9 Periods Year 10 Periods Senior School
Arts 3 3 2*
English 4 4 4 Compulsory
Health/PE 3 3 2*
LOTE 2 2 2*
Mathematics 4 4 3*
SOSE 3 3 3*
T&E 3 3 2*
Science 3 3 2*
All students must study each learning area. Numbers in the chart above indicate the minimum amount of periods to be studied. An asterisk (*) indicates students have the option of selecting extra courses from these learning areas. All students will complete 25 periods of study a week - this allows Year 10 students the flexibility to study particular learning areas in depth.
