Subject Selection Years 7 – 9
Year 7
At Lesmurdie SHS, students in Year 7 study subjects in the eight Learning Areas and are placed into the compulsory year-long subjects of Mathematics, English, Science, Humanities & Social Sciences (HaSS), Languages (Italian), Physical Education and Health Education.
In Technologies, students will complete a semester each in Digital Technologies and Design and Technologies. The contexts involved in Design and Technologies are Food & Fibre and Materials & Technologies Specialisation.
In The Arts, students will complete a semester each in Visual Arts and Performing Arts (Dance, Music or Drama). If selected, students who choose IMSS will study Music as their Performing Arts subject for one semester. Please note; if IMSS is chosen then it will be studied for a semester, however, the instrumental tuition will be studied for the whole year.
Year 8
Year 8 students at Lesmurdie SHS study subjects in the Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities & Social Science (HaSS), Languages (Italian), Health Education and Physical Education for the full year.
Year 8 students choosing to study Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) will study this subject for a semester but have personal tuition for the whole year. For the Arts and Technologies Learning Areas, students will be given choices to support their developing interests and career directions. To provide breadth and balance, all Year 8 students will be required to study semester-long subjects in Visual Arts and one of the Performing Arts (Dance, Drama or Music), as well as Digital Technologies and one of the Design and Technologies subjects. Leap students and academically able mathematical students will be given an opportunity to select Engineering as a subject studied for the whole year.
Year 9
Year 9 students at Lesmurdie Senior High School study year-long subjects in the eight Learning Areas and will be placed into the compulsory subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities & Social Science (HaSS) and Physical Education and Health. For the Arts, Languages (Italian) and Technologies Learning Areas, students will be given greater choices to support their developing specialist interests and career directions.
