Rose Famiano, Teacher in Charge, Languages, was recognised for her outstanding contribution to Italian Language Education in WA Schools when she was named as a 2016 State Finalist, Exemplary Teacher Award. Rose has been a teacher of Italian for 21 years. She is a passionate educator and facilitator of Languages and committed to quality teaching and learning in the Western Australian education system.
Rose’s first teaching position was at Lesmurdie Senior High School. She then moved to Wanneroo Secondary College as the Coordinator and Teacher in Charge of the Partial Immersion Program in Italian before returning to Lesmurdie as Teacher in Charge of Languages five years ago. Over the years Rose has worked at SCSA and UWA delivering workshops, lectures and sample support material related to examinations, assessment and curriculum delivery and implementation. For four years she was the Exchange Coordinator for the Western Australian Association of Teachers of Italian/AFS Intercultura Exchange Hosting and Sending programs.
Rose is also the Tour Coordinator for the Lesmurdie SHS Language and Cultural Tour of Italy, a biannual internation excursion for students studying Italian.
Rose was nominated by the school for this award. The WAATI Exemplary Teacher Award is one of the highest honours bestowed on a teacher of Italian in WA and recognises and congratulates excellence in the teaching of Italian AND involvement in WAATI. The award, presented annually, consists of a trophy and a certificate accompanied by a monetary award. She is a most deserving finalist.
