Each semester, Drama students from all year groups are challenged to showcase all that they have learned throughout their course of study. Semester 1 in 2016 was no exception with Drama students from Years 7 to 10 performing a range of scripted productions in a series of public performances.
Year 7 students delivered their in-class performance showcases in front of a very attentive audience of parents and family. Our Year 8, 9 and 10 evening performances provided us with a unique opportunity to benefit others by donating all proceeds to charity. When I discussed this with our students, there was an overwhelmingly positive response. I was truly impressed by the levels of awareness our students have of the range of charities. I was also impressed with the passion they showed as they advocated for their charity. All options were considered and a vote was held. By a strong margin the Drama cohort of 2016 decided to support Radio Lollypop.
Radio Lollypop is an international charity that provides comfort, music and entertainment to children in hospital through volunteers and radio stations which broadcast within hospitals and to other children’s wards in their region. Through the performance evenings, students managed to raise nearly $700 dollars for the charity and with some added generosity from the school we are proud to donate $800 dollars to Radio Lollypop.
