There are 85,000 homeless women who need your help this Christmas. Many have fled domestic violence or experienced extreme poverty. ‘It’s in the Bag’ is simple and it makes a big difference in a woman’s life.
You can help in a couple of ways. Clean out your handbag collection and donate any in good condition that you no longer use. You can fill it with items that would make a woman feel special and pop in a thoughtful note or Christmas card and show her someone cares.
No excess handbags! Next time you’re at the shops, collect a few items to fill donated bags. The ‘essential seven’ items to include are sanitary products, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and deodorant.
Education Assistant Janine Fisher is the WA State Coordinator of Share the Dignity. She will collect your donations which will then be given to registered charities to distribute to homeless and disadvantaged women in time for Christmas.
Last year Australia wide we collected a massive total of 105,000 filled handbags. In WA our total was 10,000 and at LSHS we were responsible for putting together 25 of these filled handbags.
If you would like to donate to this very worthwhile and deserving cause, donations of filled handbags, empty handbags or the items to fill these handbags can be dropped off to Student Services anytime between now and the close of the campaign on December 2nd.
