SSEP students shine in ASX Stockmarket Game
September 25th, 2015
Students in the Senior School Engagement Program have been participating in the ASX School Stock Market game this term. Playing the game helps students develop their knowledge of the Stock Market and gain a greater knowledge of economic and world events.
They are discovering the importance of wise investment decisions and working in a team. In the Stock Market Game they get $50,000 to spend on buying or selling shares (hypothetically of course!).
The Game runs for 10 weeks and follows the live stock market. This means that if BHP shares are worth $33.80 in the live market, this is what they may buy or sell them for in the Game. If BHP shares move up or down in price, this is also what will happen to the value of their shares. This is as close as you can get to real life trading. There are also some pretty good prizes…like cash!
Currently only 13% of the 15 788 school players are in profit and this includes two teams from Lesmurdie SHS. Congratulations to Scott Ashby and Justin Whelan. Their portfolio is currently ranked 22nd in WA out of 1584 teams, an outstanding achievement.
